The Death of the Greatest Prophet,
sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam

All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, seek His forgiveness and guidance and we seek refuge with Allah from our own evil and ill doings. The one Whom Allah guides no one shall be able to misguide him and the one whom Allah makes misguided no one shall be able to guide him. I testify that no one is God except Allah, and that Muhammad is the slave and Messenger of Allah, may Allah raise his rank and protect his nation from what he fears for them, and the rank of every Messenger He had sent.

Thereafter, O slaves of Allah I order you and myself with piety and Godfearingness, for if they reside in the heart of one, he will inevitably be triumphant in the Hereafter. Allah the Exalted said in Surah Al-^Imran, 144:

This verse means: Muhammad is but a Messenger and Messengers before him had passed away; now if he dies or gets killed are you going to turn away? The one who turns away shall not harm Allah in any way and Allah shall reward those who are thankful.

Praise be to Allah and may Allah raise the rank of our Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, his kind Al, and Companions and to protect his nation from which he fears for it.

Dear Muslims, after stating the traits and manners of the Prophet, and the story of his breast-feeding, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, it is suitable to talk about his death, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam; the death of the Master of the nation, whom Allah sent as a guidance and mercy to people. This reminds us that this world is a mere passage, and that the hereafter is the everlasting residence, it reminds us also that death is true. Allah willed it upon all the slaves, this is witnessed in the Qur’an in which Allah mentioned to His Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, that he will die as all other humans will.

The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, got a headache at ^A‘ishah’s house. She said: As the Messenger of Allah entered into my house on the day when his sickness started I said: “O my head?” He said: “Indeed I am the one who should say, O my head.” He got really sick and said: “Did the people pray?” I said: “No, they are waiting for you O Messenger of Allah.” He then ordered us to put water in the pot for him to take a bath, so we did. Then he headed to the prayer, but he lost consciousness. When he woke up he said: “Did the people pray?” I said: “No, they are waiting for you O Messenger of Allah.” He then sent after Abu Bakr asking him to lead the prayer. Abu Bakr was a soft person, so he said to ^Umar: “O ^Umar, lead the people in the prayer.” He answered him: “You are more deserving than me.”

Abu Bakr may Allah raise his rank led the Prayer during those days, as the Prophet’s illness lessened, he went out for the Noon (Dhuhr) Prayer between two men. When Abu Bakr saw the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, he wanted to step back from leading the Prayer; however, the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, pointed to him not to do that. He then ordered the two men to seat him beside Abu Bakr, so the way they prayed was that Abu Bakr was standing during his Prayer while the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, was sitting.

Later the Prophet became gravely ill, his daughter Fatimah may Allah raise her rank would say: “O father, I am so stressed for your stress.” The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, answered her: “Your father will be stressed no more after today.”

When the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, passed away, the news reached his Companion Abu Bakr asSiddiq; he came without looking at anything until he entered the house.

Dear Muslims, look at this situation when Abu Bakr asSiddiq entered the house to see his beloved lying down and covered with a dress known as “burd”, he said: “I sacrifice my father and mother for you O Messenger of Allah, I sacrifice myself for you; O you the beloved to Allah.” He came and uncovered the face of the Messenger of Allah and kissed him between the eyes, he then put the “burd” back on the face of the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.

As for ^Umar, he said: “Some people are claiming that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, has died, I would say that he did not die.” Abu Bakr may Allah raise his rank came out and said: “O ^Umar, calm down, listen.” He refused to stop talking, and then Abu Bakr addressed the people; praised and thanked Allah and said: “O people, he who used to worship Muhammad, then let him know that Muhammad is dead. And he, who worships Allah, then let him know that Allah is Alive and does not die.” He then recited verse 144 from Surat Al-^Imran:

^Umar may Allah raise his rank said: “I swear by Allah that when I heard Abu Bakr reciting it, my feet could not hold me anymore until I fell to the ground, and I knew that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, has died.”

Fatimah may Allah raise her rank said: “O my father, his Lord answered his supplication, O my father his residence is in the upper Paradise, O my father I extend my condolences to Jibril.”

Muslims gathered to wash the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, ^Aliyy leaned him backwards on his chest and said: “I sacrifice my father and mother for you, how great you are dead and alive.” While ^Aliyy was doing that, al-^Abbas and al-Fadul were kissing him along with ^Aliyy. Usamah and Salih were pouring water while ^Aliyy was washing him. They did not know where to bury the Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, until Abu Bakr may Allah raise his rank said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, saying: “No prophet has ever been buried in other than where he died.” They pulled his bed and dug underneath it to bury him.

He was shrouded with three white dresses and was put on his bed beside the top of the grave, and then people came and prayed for him individually without having an imam. Al-^Abbas, al-Fadul, ^Aliyy, Qutham, and Shuqran got down in his grave and they buried him sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.

Dear Muslims take good heed in that event and memorize it, for memory benefits the believers. If you were to be inflicted with a calamity, then remember the death of the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam. Remember it and work for the hereafter so that you will be with the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, and do say a lot the Salatau ^ala an-Nabiyy sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam.

All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, seek His forgiveness and guidance and we seek refuge with Allah from our own evil and ill doings. The one Whom Allah guides no one shall be able to misguide him and the one whom Allah makes misguided no one shall be able to guide him. I testify that no one is God except Allah, and that Muhammad, is the slave and Messenger of Allah, may Allah raise his rank and protect his nation from what he fears for them, and the rank of every Messenger He had sent.

O slaves of Allah I order you and myself with piety and Godfearingness

Allah ta^ala says in His Glorious Qur’an, in surah al-Hajj, 1-2,

These verses mean: O people be pious and God fearing, for the rocking of the Day of Judgment is a great event, when you observe it each nursing woman shall be bewildered from what it is nursing ad every pregnant female shall deliver, and you shall see the people drunk like yet they will not be drunk, for the torture of Allah is immense.

O slaves of Allah I remind you that Allah has ordered you with a great matter, He ordered you with saying asSalah and as-salam for His choicest and most honorable Prophet; Allah said in surah al-Ahzab, 56:

This verse means: Allah raises the rank of the Prophet and grants him safety from what he fears for his nation, and His Angels say Assalah for the Prophet; O you who believed do say Assalah and As-salam for the prophet many times.

O Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad and increase his prestige and honor and protect his nation from what he fears for them, the same as you bestowed on Ibrahim and the family members of Ibrahim, O Allah you are the Praised and Glorified one.

O Allah we have made a supplication to you so answer our supplication and forgive our sins and forgive that we have done injustice to ourselves. O Allah forgive the sins of the believers, male and female, those who are alive and those who have died. O Allah bestow upon us goodness in this world and in the Hereafter and protect us from Hellfire. O Allah make us guided and among those who guide others and do not make us misguided and do not make us among those who misguide others. O Allah cover our short comings and comfort our fears and make us satisfied toward our burdens and protect us from the evil of what we fear.

O slaves of Allah know that Allah orders you to do justice, benevolence and to be kind to your kin, and forbids you to commit vileness, unlawful matters and injustice, and admonishes you so you may remember. Do remember Allah the Magnificent and Allah will take care of you, do thank Him and He will increase your endowments, do ask Him to forgive you and He will forgive you, and be Godfearing and He will guide you out of your hardships.
