Allah ta^ala said:

These Ayahs mean: Allah facilitates hardship relief for the one who exercises piety and provides him with sustenance from sources which he never expects. Whoever relies on Allah, Allah will suffice him.

Verily, Allah fulfils His Will and everything is predestined by Him.

Imam Ahmad in his book ‘Al-Musnad’ and Imam Al-Hakim in his book ‘Al-Mustadrak’ narrated through the route of Abu Dhar that the Prophet peace be upon him recited this Ayah then said to Abu Dhar: “Oh, Abu Dhar, if people plan their life around the principles of this Ayah, it will suffice them”.

At-Taqwa ‘piety’ means to fulfil all the obligations and to avoid all the prohibitions. In his interpretation of these Ayahs, Ibn ^Abbas said: ‘Those who fulfil the obligations and avoid the prohibitions will be saved in this life and in the Hereafter’. Moreover, Allah will bestow upon them His abundant sustenance.

Being pious is a reason for one’s success, hardship relief and raising of one’s religious status, while committing sins is a reason for deprivation and misery.

Ibn Hibban, Al-Hakim and others narrated that the Prophet said: ‘one would be deprived from sustenance because of the sins one commits’. Some scholars explained the hadith further by saying: Committing sins would deprive one from numerous endowments in this life. The sinner might be deprived from being healthy or wealthy or the like. Sins might also be a reason for one to forget what one has memorised of the Islamic Knowledge or a reason for one to be disrespected and abandoned by his Muslim brothers.

Explanation of

Brothers in Islam, obey Allah the Lord of the worlds, by performing the obligations and avoiding the sins, and by following the path of His honourable Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Rely on Allah the Exalted. Relying on Allah means to believe firmly that Allah is the One Who creates both the benefit and the harm. No one can benefit you with anything which Allah did not Will for you to get. No one can impose any harm on you if Allah did not Will for that harm to happen to you. As a result of this firm belief, one should always rely on Allah in obtaining sustenance and other benefits.

The Prophet peace be upon him said: “If you have genuine reliance on Allah, Allah Will provide you with the sufficient sustenance you need, just as the birds that fly out of their nests in the morning with empty stomachs and return in the afternoon with full stomachs.”

Dear brothers in Islam, know that there is no contradiction between relying on Allah and taking the needed steps for one’s successful achievement.

The Prophet peace be upon him taught the man who asked him whether or not he should tie his camel. The Prophet said to him: “Tie it and rely on Allah.“

In the end we ask Allah to make us amongst those who always rely on Him grant us piety, ameen.
