The Advent of Jesus, peace be upon him

Maryam and her Family

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 27:

فَأَتَتْ بِهِ قَوْمَهَا تَحْمِلُهُ

After Lady Maryam was clear from postpartum bleeding she returned to her people carrying Prophet `Eesaa, mercy and peace be upon him.

• Soorat Maryam, 27:

When they saw him they said:

O Maryam you are showing a surprising and an unprecedented matter and displaying a profoundly serious issue (as if it is unbelievable).

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 28:

يَآ أُخْتَ هَارُونَ

O Haaroon’s Sister!

Haaroon was her parental brother and was from among the best persons of the Family of Israel.

Or it was in reference to Prophet Moosaa’s Brother, Prophet Haaroon, peace be upon them, as she was one of his descendants. There was 1,000 years between Prophet Haaroon and Lady Maryam.

This is like saying to her you are one of his descendants.

• Soorat Maryam, 28:

Your father, `Imraan, was not an indecent man, i.e., unlike someone who used to commit adultery.

• Soorat Maryam, 28:

Your mother, Hannah, was not an indecent woman, i.e., unlike someone who used to commit adultery.

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 29:

فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَيْهِ

She pointed to `Eesaa to answer them.

Prophet `Eesaa, peace be upon him, already had told her:

Do not have any grieve and refer to me to give the answer.

It was said Angel Jibril told her to point to Prophet `Eesaa. When she pointed to him, they became angry and surprised.

• Soorat Maryam, 29:

They said:

How could we talk to someone who was born and placed in the cradle?

The child’s familiar cradle is his place prepared and fixed for him to sleep in it.

`Eesaa’s Speech

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 30:

قَالَ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللهِ

When Lady Maryam complained, by Allah’s order, about her talking tongue, Allah made for her the silent tongue talk (i.e., Prophet `Eesaa) to profess with lordship to Allah. He was then 40 days, or one day old.

It was mentioned that Prophet `Eesaa pointed by his index finger and said with a soft voice:

I am Allah’s servant

• Soorat Maryam, 30:

He gave me the Book (i.e., the Injeel).

It means that in the future Allah will reveal to me the Book and will appoint me as a Prophet.

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 31:

وَجَعَلَنِي مُبَارَكًا أَيْنَ مَا كُنْتُ

Allah made me beneficial wherever I go. Or Allah made me a teacher of goodness.

• Soorat Maryam, 31:

Allah ordered me to perform the prayer and pay the zakah if I come to own money in my life.

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 32:

وَبَرًّا بِوَالِدَتِي

Allah also ordered me to be respectful and caring to my mother: I honor and revere her.

• Soorat Maryam, 32:

Allah did not make me arrogant or disrespectful to my mother.

• Allah said in Soorat Maryam, 33:

وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدْتُ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيًّا

That is, safety upon me from Allah, the Exalted, when I was born, i.e., in this life; when I die, i.e., when I am in the grave; and in the Hereafter, i.e., when I am resurrected.

The salaam directed to Prophet Yahyaa, peace be upon him, in these three occasions is also directed to me.

In this way Prophet `Eesaa, peace be upon him, was saved in all his state of affairs.

Some scholars said these statements meant:

I am safe from the devil’s poking at the time of birth, I am safe from associating a partner with Allah at the time of death and I am safe from the horrors of the Judgement’s Day.
