The characteristics of prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
[ About the (Kuhul) of messenger of Allah peace be upon him ]
(Imam at-Tirmidhiyy) said: (Muhammad the son of Humayd ar-Raziyy) reported to me that he reported from the (father of Dawood at-Tayalisiyy) that he reported from (^Abaad the son of Mansour) that he reported from (^Ikrima) that he reported from the (son of ^Abbas) may Allah raise his rank, that he said:
The messenger of Allah peace Be upon him, said what means: Use (kuhl made of) Ithmid on the eye, for that it brightens the eyesight, and strengthens and increases the growth of the eye lashes. The son of ^Abbas also used to say that the messenger of Allah peace be upon him, had a small container for keeping the kuhl, from which he applied kuhl in each eye three times every night >>. (The Ithmid is a special type of Kuhul which is made from grinding special rocks it comes in two colours, red and black).
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، قَالَ: اكْتَحِلُوا بِالإِثْمِدِ، فَإِنَّهُ يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ، وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ وَزَعَمَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، كَانَتْ لَهُ مُكْحُلَةٌ يَكْتَحِلُ مِنْهَا كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ، ثَلاثَةً فِي هَذِهِ، وَثَلاثَةً فِي هَذِهِ.
(Imam at-Tirmidhiyy) said: (^Abdullah the son of as-Sabahal-Hashimiyy al-Basriyy) reported to me that he reported from (^Ubaydul-llah the son of Musa) that he said that (Israil the son of Younus) that he reported from (^Abaad the son of Mansour) (ح) and in another chain: (Imam at-Tirmidhiyy) mentioned that meets with the same person who is (^Abaad the son of Mansour) is from the route of:
(^Aiyy the son of Hujur) that he said that (Yazeed the son of Haroon) that he reported from (^Abaad the son of Mansour) that he reported from (Ikrima) that he reported from the (son of ^Abbas) may Allah raise his rank, that he said:
The messenger of Allah peace be upon him, applied (kuhl) of ithmid three times in each eye before sleeping >>. (Yazeed the son of Haroon) said: In his narration also from the (son of ^Abbas) that the Prophet peace be upon him, had a small container for keeping (kuhl), from which he applied in each eye (kuhl) three times before sleeping >>.
كَانَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَكْتَحِلُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ بِالإِثْمِدِ، ثَلاثًا فِي كُلِّ عَيْنٍ، وَقَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، فِي حَدِيثِهِ: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، كَانَتْ لَهُ مُكْحُلَةٌ يَكْتَحِلُ مِنْهَا عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ، ثَلاثًا فِي كُلِّ عَيْنٍ.
(Imam at-Tirmidhiyy) said: (Ahmad the son of Man^i) reported to me that (Muhammad the son of Yazeed) mentioned to him that he reported from (Muhammad the son of Ishaaq) that he reported from (Muhammad the son of al-Munkadiriyy) that he reported from (Jabir who is the son of ^Abdullah) may Allah raise his rank, that he said:
The messenger of Allah peace be upon him, said: Use the (kuhl made from) ithmid before going to sleep for that it brightens the vision and strengthens the growth of the eye lashes >>.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالإِثْمِدِ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ، فَإِنَّهُ يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ، وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ.
(Imam at-Tirmidhiyy) said: (Qutaba) reported to me that he reported from (Bishir the son of Mufadal) that he reported from (^Abdullah the son of ^Uthman who is the son of Khuthaym) that he reported from (Sa^eed the son of Jubayr) that he reported from the (son of ^Abbas) may Allah raise his rank, that he said:
The messenger of Allah peace be upon him, said what means: The best from among all the kuhl used by you is the one made from ithmid for that It brightens the eyesight and strengthens the growth of the eye lashes >>.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِنَّ خَيْرَ أَكْحَالِكُمُ الإِثْمِدُ، يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ، وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ.
(Imam at-Tirmidhiyy) said: (Ibrahim the son of Mustamirr al-Bisriyy) reported to me that the Father of (^Asim) reported to him that he reported from (^Uthman the son of ^Abdul-Malik) that he reported from (Salem) that he reported from the (son of ^Umar) may Allah raise his rank, that he said:
That the messenger of Allah peace be upon him, said what means: Use the (kuhl made from) ithmid for that it brightens the vision and strengthens the growth of the eye lashes >>.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالإِثْمِدِ، فَإِنَّهُ يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ، وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ.
